Dr. Cammy Abernathy, Dean of the College of Engineering, announced that on July 1, 2011 Dr. Kirk Hatfield (pictured on right) will become the first director of the first school formed within the College of Engineering. The Engineering School for Sustainable Infrastructure and Environment (ESSIE) will house the Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering(CCE) and the Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences (EES). Also, each department has been assigned a new Department Head. For CCE, Dr. Robert Thieke will take the role and for EES, Dr. Paul Chadik has been named as Department Head. Faculty, staff and students from both departments are excited about the restructuring and for the variety of new opportunities that it brings to the College and each of the departments.
